Road Trip: California and Utah

Back in November we had grand plans for a road trip from California to Utah and then Idaho before heading back to Southern California. Early morning we packed the truck which took longer than we planned but then off to Utah we went.

After many hours of talking, true crime podcasts, rest stops, and snacking we made it to Zion National Park. We made a few stops to take in the view and then drove through the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel. Then we finally got to Dixie National Forest – Red Canyon National Park. We sent up camp on some Bureau of Land Management and then headed into Panguitch to Cowboys Smokehouse/Steakhouse for dinner and dessert to go. Their cobbler with vanilla ice cream was amazing!

As the night progressed the more layers that went on. It was the coldest night of camping for both of us. The next morning we went hiking on same trails. It was an easy hike but I kept stopping around every bend because the views were just breathtaking. We were on a bit of a tight schedule so I had to keep moving and keep telling Marty that we have to come back.

As we were headed to Idaho we received some news. After we made it to our cabin in Southern Idaho, we deiced that we would cut our road trip short and head home.

We made the drive from Idaho down to North Lake Tahoe, California for the night. The next morning we went on a short hike and then off to Bodie State Historic Park. Going to Bodie was not as easy to get to as you would think. On the way out of Lake Tahoe we were going to take Monitor Pass through the mountains but it was closed for the winter. We had to back track through Lake Tahoe and into Nevada to come back into California south of the pass. With a little over an hour before closing we made it to Bodie. It was a nice way to end our road trip!
