The past couple months my Mom and I have been combing the beach to find sea glass. For some the old saying, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” comes to mind when talking about sea glass. Sea glass comes from glass bottles that have been broken down by 20plus years being tumbled and rolled by waves. These five tips to find sea glass has helped us in the hunt.
Tip 1
The ideal times to find sea glass is about one to two hours before low tide until one to two hours after. Walk along the high tide line. Be prepared you are going to get wet!

Tip 2
Grab yourself a pair of water shoes. I bought a pair for my Mom and myself and she thought I was crazy. Yes, they are goofy looking but it will make looking for sea glass easier and more comfortable on your feet. The first time I went hunting for sea glass I sliced open the bottom of my feet.

Tip 3
Bring a bucket or bag to put your sea glass in. I use reusable sandwich bag that I can seal shut so nothing falls out. My Mom has said we should bring a beach toy little shovel and sand sifter.
Tip 4
Groups of pebbles or rocks are your best friend. Use your feet to move the rocks around. This is why you are wearing your water shoes! Don’t be afraid to take a seat on the sand. Getting closer makes it easier to spot the small pieces.
Tip 5
Storms always turn and wash up treasures on the beach. After a storm comb the beaches to see what sea glass has washed up.
Extra Tip 6
Be patient! Take your time when your on the beach looking for sea glass.

Ive been collecting sea glass for years! Haven’t found much in Florida, always look on the islands while on vacation! New Jersey always had a lot of sea glass, because there were so many glass factories in South Jersey! Its getting harder to find though, since its become so popular! I love the hunt!!!!!
